First Tee Eastern Michigan, Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational-LPGA Tournament and Currie Golf Course recently announced registration for the 2nd annual Great Lakes Bay Junior Championship is now open. This competitive event will be played at Currie Golf Courses East and West Course in Midland on Thursday, June 15 and is open to juniors that reside or attend school in Bay, Isabella, Midland or Saginaw counties. The event is sponsored by the Great Lakes Bay Invitational and Bierlein.
The tournament will feature boys and girls’ champions in three age divisions: Age 10-12 (9 holes on Currie East Course), Age 13-15 and Age 16-18 (18 holes on Currie West Course). Winners of each division will receive a trophy and will be invited to hit the opening shot at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational-LPGA Tournament. Entry fee is $30 per player for ages 10-12 and $50 per player (ages 13+). Registration fee includes 9 or 18 holes, range before golf, lunch, tee gift and prizes.
“We’ve wanted to offer juniors in the Great Lakes Bay Region an opportunity to have a competitive event locally without having to travel so far,” said Joe Simpson, Program Director for First Tee Eastern Michigan. “After last year’s success, we had several requests to include a younger age division so we’ve added a 10–12-year-old age division that will play 9 holes on Currie’s East Course. Eventually we would like to have qualifiers in each county and make the Championship a regional event.”
