Uncharted waters: Sean Stapley is a partner and head of ventures at Penrose Partners

The fourth annual International Tech Summit in Bermuda is an opportunity to build bridges, an event organiser said yesterday.

Sean Stapley is a partner and head of ventures at Penrose Partners, the global blockchain advisory firm that is cohost of next week’s four-day event, which starts on April 11.

He said: “This year’s conference is incredibly timely. Attendees and speakers will discuss how the digital asset industry can move forward by building stronger and more resilient ecosystems.

“We’re navigating uncharted waters right now with increased regulatory oversight, and this presents an opportunity to build bridges between a new generation of infrastructure and traditional financial institutions.”

The event will bring together innovators, regulators, and executives from Bermuda, Canada, United States, India, and the United Kingdom to explore the latest breakthroughs in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and fintech.

Featured speakers include Pascal St-Jean, the president of Canadian digital asset management firm 3iQ Corp, Mike McGlone, senior commodity strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, and Liat Shetret, director of global policy and regulation at Elliptic, the forensics software company.

The event kicks off Tuesday with conference panels at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club addressing key elements across building core infrastructure through bear markets, artificial intelligence, the regulation and evolution of decentralised finance and digital assets, and what the future of insurance will look like.

The day will close with a conversation between David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, and CoinDesk chief content officer Michael Casey.

Mr Casey said: “I’m excited to return to Bermuda for this seminal event, to explore the rich tech ecosystem that’s evolving out of the territory’s innovative approach to the regulation of digital assets and related technologies.”

On Wednesday, Government’s Economic Development Department and the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation will cohost a career fair and community education day alongside Penrose Partners.

Local start-ups, international tech leaders, and investors will gather at the Ignite Bermuda incubator in Hamilton to better understand the many opportunities through which to capitalise on economic growth and local tech adoption.

Next Thursday will feature a virtual start-up pitch competition globally connecting founders and investors.

Event sponsors include 3iQ Corp, the EDD, Bittrex Global, Relm Insurance, the BEDC, Aon, Zeeve, Alpha Innovations, Warwick Capital, JMRConnect, and Continental Management Limited.
