1,000 Manatees Converge on Florida State Park to Keep Warm in Record-Breaking Sighting

A record-breaking sighting of 1,000 Manatees has occurred at Blue Spring State Park in Florida as they seek warm waters during the winter. The park has long been a refuge for the animals during cold weather, and rangers conduct a manatee count every winter. On January 21, 932 manatees were found in the park's lagoons, 200 more than any previous count. This is seen as a positive sign, indicating that manatees have a good understanding of their environment and increasing their chances of survival during extreme weather events. The manatee population in Florida has significantly increased over the past 50 years.
