The U.K. has banned American XL bully dogs following a series of deadly attacks. Owners must now apply for an exemption to keep their pets, which requires proof of neutering and liability insurance. XL bullies must be muzzled and leashed in public. Before 2021, there were around three dog attack deaths per year in the U.K., but there have been at least 23 since then, many involving American XL bullies. The breed is a mix of several dog breeds, including Pit Bulls, American Bulldogs, and English Bulldogs. Over 35,000 dogs in the U.K. are already registered for American XL bully exemptions.
