Japan's moon lander, called the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), successfully made a soft landing on the moon after a wonky angle on its solar panel caused it to shut down for days. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced that a change in lighting conditions allowed the solar panels to recharge the batteries. The landing was described as an "unprecedented pinpoint landing" and marks Japan as the fifth nation to achieve a soft landing on the moon, following the USA, Soviet Union, China, and India. The technology used for the landing could be useful in future missions to search for chemicals like oxygen and hydrogen.
