Liberia: election observers applaud peaceful conduct

Observers from the EU and ECOWAS have praised Liberia for the peaceful conduct of its second round of presidential elections. Opposition candidate Joseph Boakai is currently leading with 50.58% of the vote, while incumbent President George Weah has 49.42%. So far, 86.61% of the polling stations have been counted, representing just over 1.4 million votes. The EU mission noted improvements in the electoral process since the first round, but also highlighted the use of state resources by the ruling party and inflammatory comments on social media.
