Five Metropolitan Police officers and three former officers are under investigation for gross misconduct in relation to the handling of the Stephen Port murder investigation. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is looking into possible breaches of police professional standards, including equality and diversity, duties and responsibilities, authority respect and courtesy, and honesty and integrity. The IOPC opened a reinvestigation in 2022 into the way the Met initially handled the murders of four victims in east London. In a previous investigation, 17 officers were examined, and now five of them are facing gross misconduct charges.
