Ethiopian Airlines expands Boeing 737 MAX fleet 5 years after fatal crash

Ethiopian Airlines has announced a deal with Boeing to purchase 20 737 MAX aircraft and 11 additional 787 Dreamliners. The airline plans to order more planes in the future, including 21 narrow-body planes and 15 Dreamliner jets. It will also announce an order for wide-body jets in the coming months. Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed confidence in the 737 MAX, stating that the design defect has been corrected. The 2019 MAX crash led to a worldwide grounding of the model and cost Boeing $20 billion. The deal is described as the largest-ever purchase of Boeing planes in African history.
