Edmonton Oilers fire head coach after poor start to NHL season

The Edmonton Oilers have fired head Coach Jay Woodcroft after a disappointing start to the NHL season, despite a recent victory over the Seattle Kraken. Woodcroft had a record of 79-41-13 as Oilers head coach. Kris Knoblauch, coach of the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, will take over as head coach, with Paul Coffey as his assistant. Woodcroft led the team to the conference finals in 2022. The decision to fire Woodcroft came as a surprise to some fans, and the Oilers have scheduled a news conference to discuss the coaching change.
