Shared Responsibility: Eradicating Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean

The latest Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition 2023 reveals that Hunger continues to be a significant issue in Latin America and the Caribbean, with various factors contributing to the problem. While there has been a slight decrease in hunger levels compared to the previous measurement, the region is still 0.9 percentage points higher than in 2019. The situation varies across different areas, with South America seeing a reduction in hunger but still having 6 million additional undernourished people compared to pre-COVID-19. The Caribbean has an alarming prevalence of hunger, with 7.2 million people affected. The FAO recognizes the urgent need to address this issue and is committed to updating the CELAC FNS Plan for food and nutritional security.
