Burundi prosecutors call for life imprisonment for former prime minister

Prosecutors in Burundi have called for former prime minister Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni to be sentenced to life in prison. He is on trial for charges including threatening the life of the head of state, attempting to topple government institutions, and illegal enrichment. The prosecutor also requested a fine and damages amounting to twice the value of Bunyoni's properties and vehicles. Bunyoni, who was seen as the head of a powerful military group, pleaded not guilty to all charges. The judge stated that a verdict would be delivered within 30 days.
