Around 600 Egyptian nationals residing illegally in Libya queued outside the Directorate of Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) in Tripoli to receive a pass allowing them to leave the country. The DCIM is now responsible for deportations after an agreement between Libya's two administrations. The migrants, mostly men, traveled 1,375 km to the Egyptian crossing facility of Esmaed on buses. Many Egyptians have been living in Libya for years, working in sectors such as agriculture and construction, while others use Libya as a transit point in attempts to reach Europe. Libya has become a major hub for migrants attempting to reach Europe by sea.
