Met Police chief urged to ban pro-Palestinian Armistice Day protests

Pressure is mounting on Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley to ban a pro-Palestinian march planned for Armistice Day. The Deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, has expressed concerns over the planned demonstration, as have senior Tories. The Metropolitan Police Federation has warned of potential clashes between pro-Palestinian protesters and veterans commemorating Remembrance weekend. Over 70,000 protesters are expected in London on Saturday, and four police officers were attacked with fireworks at a previous rally. The commissioner cannot ban the protest himself but can apply to the Home Secretary and the Mayor of London to ban protests in a local area.
