Materials and engineering scientists at the University of Toledo have developed snow-proof Solar Panels that prevent snow accumulation and damage. The solution involves a strip applied to the lower edge of the panel that induces snow melting without disrupting sunlight absorption. The strip is easy to apply, doesn't void the module warranty, and enhances the panels' lifespan. The technology has been recognized and tested by 150 solar plant operators, showing an annual improvement in power generation of over 3.4% in Massachusetts and 5.1% in Japan. The company aims to produce 1 million strip coatings by the end of 2024.
