NOTA Option Should be Scrapped, Says Chhattisgarh CM Baghel

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has called for the scrapping of the Nota (none of the above) option on electronic voting machines. Baghel stated that sometimes NOTA receives more votes than the margin of victory and loss, and many voters mistakenly press the NOTA button thinking it is an alternative to selecting a candidate. The Election Commission added the NOTA option to the EVMs in 2013 following a Supreme Court order. In the 2018 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, NOTA received over 2 lakh votes, and in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, over 1.96 lakh NOTA votes were polled.
