Debt Collective and the Rolling Jubilee Fund have canceled $10 million in Student Loan Debt for nearly 3,000 students at Morehouse College in Atlanta. The debt was purchased for one-and-a-quarter pennies on the dollar, reflecting the low likelihood of the university recovering it. This is the largest debt relief purchase in the organizations' histories. Debt Collective spokesperson Braxton Brewington stated that the cancellation will improve the financial situations of black individuals, allowing them to save for retirement, buy a home, or start a small business. Similar debt relief purchases have become more common in the US due to high debt levels.
