California agency pulls Cruise’s commercial robotaxi permit following DMV action

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has suspended Cruise's authority to charge passengers for its Robotaxi service, following similar action by the state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The CPUC is conducting an independent investigation into recent incidents involving Cruise's passenger service. The DMV suspended Cruise's deployment and driverless testing permits after the company withheld video footage from an investigation into an incident in which a pedestrian was hit and dragged by a Cruise robotaxi. The CPUC's decision comes just three months after it granted Cruise the necessary permits to charge passengers for robotaxi rides in San Francisco.
