Scientists have discovered a vast landscape of hills and valleys, larger than Belgium, that has been hidden under the Antarctic Ice for potentially more than 34 million years. Using satellite images and radio-echo sounding data, researchers were able to trace out the ancient river-carved landscape more than two kilometers below the ice. The area was once home to trees, forests, and animals, but has been "frozen in time" by the ice. However, human-driven global warming poses a threat to the landscape, as it could potentially expose it in the future.
