Gabon: Former Bongo’s chief of staff released from prison

Former Gabonese Chief of staff, Laccruche Alihanga, has been Released from prison after spending almost four years in solitary confinement. Alihanga, who became the de facto leader after President Ali Bongo Ondimba's stroke in 2018, was released on October 20. However, he and two others are still under house arrest and facing prosecution for embezzlement of public funds. Alihanga was also found guilty of obtaining an administrative document based on false declarations. Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, the wife of the deposed former leader, is also imprisoned, accused of money laundering.
