Burkina: 214 deaths from dengue since January 1

Since January 1, 2023, a Dengue fever epidemic has resulted in 214 deaths in Burkina Faso, with the majority of cases occurring in the capital city, Ouagadougou, and the second-largest city, Bobo-Dioulasso. The government reported a total of 50,478 suspected cases of dengue fever, with 25,502 probable cases. The epidemic is still active in the two cities, and another mosquito-transmitted disease, chikungunya, has also emerged since September. The government has implemented measures such as free rapid screening tests and a campaign to spray mosquito repellent products in affected areas.
