GM, Cruise and Honda to launch robotaxi service in Japan

General Motors, Cruise, and Honda have announced plans to launch a robotaxi service in Japan through a new joint venture. The service will initially start in central Tokyo in early 2026 with dozens of custom-built Cruise Origin vehicles, eventually expanding to a fleet of 500. The companies aim to scale the service area beyond central Tokyo. The announcement comes as GM, Cruise, and Honda continue their collaboration, which began in 2013 with hydrogen fuel cell systems and has since expanded to include the development of affordable electric vehicles.
