Environmental activists wait to hear from ministry on travel appeal

Cambodian Environmental Activists, Phuong Keoraksmey, Thun Ratha, and Long Kunthea, who are currently serving suspended prison sentences, have petitioned the Ministry of Justice to allow them to travel to Sweden to receive the prestigious Right Livelihood Award. However, the ministry has not yet responded to their petition. The activists were found guilty of incitement for their involvement in protests against forest and water development projects. Human rights groups have called on the government to allow the activists to travel and receive the award, stating that it promotes fundamental rights and freedoms.
