Global water crisis imperils $58 trillion & food security

A new report by the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) highlights the global water crisis and its impact on economic value, Food Security, and sustainability. The direct economic benefits of water consumption amount to a minimum of $7.5 trillion annually, while the unseen ecosystem benefits are estimated to be around $50 trillion annually, equivalent to 60% of global GDP. Degradation of freshwater ecosystems, including rivers, lakes, wetlands, and aquifers, threatens their economic value and their role in sustaining human and planetary health. Agriculture is the dominant consumer of water resources, responsible for nearly 70% of global water extraction.
