Mali: supporters of an influential imam postpone their demonstration for civilian rule

Supporters of influential Malian imam Mahmoud Dicko have postponed a planned march in Mali's capital, Bamako, demanding the return of Civilian Rule. The Coordination des mouvements, associations et sympathisants de l'Imam Mahmoud Dicko (CMAS) announced the postponement without specifying a new date. Imam Dicko was a key figure in the protest movement that led to the ousting of civilian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta in 2020. The military, which took power in the coup, had promised to hand over power after elections in February 2024 but recently announced a "slight" postponement, citing technical factors.
