Former Haiti Senator Pleads Guilty for Role in President’s 2021 Assassination

Former Haitian Senator Joseph Joel John has pleaded guilty to criminal charges in a U.S. court for his involvement in the 2021 Assassination of former President Jovenel Moise. John, one of 11 defendants, could face life in prison and will be sentenced on December 19. He admitted to providing material support to the plot, including rental vehicles, introductions to gangs, and attempts to procure weapons. Moise's assassination left a power vacuum, allowing gangs to gain control and carry out violence. The U.N. Security Council has called for international forces to restore order, but they have yet to arrive.
