Debate on school pronoun policy scheduled to begin in Sask. legislature Tuesday

The Saskatchewan government is set to introduce a bill to fast-track its controversial School Pronoun Policy, which would require schools to inform parents if a student under 16 wanted to change their name or pronouns. Last week, a judge placed an injunction on the policy, stating that there had been no meaningful consultation with parents, students, or teachers. However, Premier Scott Moe plans to use the notwithstanding clause to override the court ruling. The clause allows the government to override certain Charter rights for up to five years. Opponents of the policy are planning a protest outside the legislature.
