New IOM head in Ethiopia on first official Africa visit

Amy Pope, the new head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is on her first official Visit to Africa. During a press conference in Addis Ababa, she emphasized the need to create regular pathways to migration. Pope also highlighted the issue of migration to the Gulf States, particularly the high number of Ethiopians going through Yemen for job opportunities. She discussed the importance of protection and humanizing the experiences of migrants. Pope met with the African Union Commission chair to discuss ways to facilitate migrant movement and economic integration in Africa. The IOM was established in 1951 to assist displaced persons, refugees, and migrants in Europe.
