Deoria Killings: Locals, SP Workers Resist UP Govt’s ‘One-sided Action’, Police Restrict Entry to Village

Six people were brutally murdered and several others injured in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, on October 2 during a land dispute between two families. Locals and Samajwadi Party (SP) activists protested against administrative officials who attempted to demolish Prem Chandra Yadav's house. The residents accused the Uttar Pradesh government of playing "caste politics" and of one-sided action. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government's actions and announced that an SP delegation would visit the village. Police dispersed the crowd and restricted entry to the village due to law-and-order concerns.
