NewsClick Row: Delhi HC Reserves Order on Plea by Portal Founder Against Arrest, Police Custody in UAPA Case

The Delhi High Court has reserved its order on the pleas made by NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakravarty, head of the human resources department, against their arrest and Police Custody in a case filed under the UAPA. The counsel for Purkayastha and Chakravarty argued that their arrest and remand were legally flawed, including the failure to provide grounds for arrest and the absence of their lawyers during the remand order. The police, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, opposed the pleas, stating that the case involves serious offenses and the arrest was lawful under the UAPA.
