Nobel economics prize awarded to U.S. economist Claudia Goldin for work on women in the labor market

The Nobel Economics Prize has been awarded to Harvard University professor Claudia Goldin for her research on women in the labor market. Goldin's work provides a comprehensive account of women's earnings and labor market outcomes throughout history, identifying causes of change and addressing remaining gender gaps. The winners of the award, officially known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, will receive 10 million Swedish krona ($907,000) between them. Last year's prize was awarded to U.S.-based economists for their research on banks and financial crises.
