This Oklahoma program pairs schools with farmers to cut down the cost of school meals

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry has launched a program that connects local farmers with School districts to purchase locally-grown food for school meals. The program, funded through a $3 million cooperative agreement, aims to reduce the cost of school lunches and support local farmers. Over 45 school districts in Oklahoma are participating in the program, which requires food to be unprocessed or minimally processed and grown or raised within 400 miles of the school district. The program helps schools provide nutritious meals to students while also supporting local agriculture.
