UN security council and AU peace and security meeting opens in Addis Ababa

The UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council have been meeting in Addis Ababa to discuss the financing of peacekeeping operations in Africa. The African Union has been struggling to finance its own peace operations and is seeking compulsory contributions from UN member countries. A draft resolution on the issue has been negotiated since 2018 but faced delays. The discussions also covered the security situation in countries such as Sudan, the Sahel, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
