ICC questioned over bizarre move for World Cup opener

The scheduling of the ICC Cricket World Cup is being questioned after the tournament opener between England and New Zealand had thousands of empty seats. This is the first time since 1996 that the Host Nation did not participate in the first match. Former England captain Michael Atherton suggested that it would have been better for the host nation to start the tournament to guarantee a full house and create a buzz. Fans on social media also criticized the choice of Ahmedabad as the venue. India, the sole host nation, will not play until three days into the tournament.
