Amazon has confirmed that it is shutting down its live Audio service called Amp, which allowed users to host their own live shows. The service was launched in March 2022 amidst the popularity of audio-only social app Clubhouse. Amazon had signed up big-name artists such as Nicki Minaj and Lil Yachty to host their own shows on Amp. The decision to close Amp comes as Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is reviewing the company's expenses and cutting back underperforming projects. Amazon has other audio and entertainment ventures, including music streaming, podcast networks, and audiobooks.
