A Painting thought to be a copy has been identified as an original work by 18th-century artist Rosalba Carriera. The painting, titled Portrait of a Tyrolese Lady, was left to the National Trust by Maurice Egerton in 1958. It was placed in storage in the 1980s before being identified as an original piece when a slip of paper hidden in the frame was discovered. The slip of paper, known as a "Santini," was a prayer and blessing that Carriera hid in her exported works. The artwork has undergone restoration and is now on display at Tatton Park.
