Ghana: opposition led demonstration denounces economic crisis

Several hundred opposition protesters in Ghana's capital Accra rallied to denounce the country's economic crisis and called for the resignation of the central bank governor, Ernest Addison. The protesters blamed Addison's policies for an economy with 40% inflation and accused him of overseeing the loss of $5 billion. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led the demonstration, with its minority MPs taking the lead. Ghana's economic outlook will be a major theme in the upcoming elections, with President Nana Akufo-Addo stepping down after his two terms. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is favored to win the primary race to become the ruling New Patriotic Party's candidate.
