Former political prisoner Le Minh The has had his pre-trial detention extended by police in Can Tho, Vietnam. The 60-year-old was released from prison in July 2020 after serving a two-year term for "abusing democratic freedoms." He was arrested again on the same charge in February 2021. The investigations can last up to three months and can be extended twice. The maximum sentence for the charge is seven years. Le Minh The's family was not informed about the extension of the investigation. Vietnam has arrested and convicted several individuals for violating the same law this year.
