Eswatini human rights lawyers says he lives in fear

Legislative elections in Eswatini are unlikely to bring about political change as the country's parliament holds only an advisory role in the last absolute monarchy in Africa. Human Rights lawyer Sibusiso Nhlabatsi lives in fear after his mentor, Thulani Maseko, was murdered in front of his family. Despite the shocking incident, no arrests have been made. Nhlabatsi now defends pro-democracy activists, taking over Maseko's role. The United Nations has called for an independent investigation into Maseko's death. Eswatini experienced pro-democracy protests in 2021, which led to a political crisis and the imprisonment of opposition lawmakers.
