Muzaffarnagar Riots: Eight Acquitted in Loot and Arson Case

A local court in Muzaffarnagar, India has acquitted eight individuals accused of looting and arson during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar Riots due to a lack of evidence. The court stated that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the accused. The case was filed by Akram, who alleged that rioters entered his house, committed loot, and set it on fire. A Special Investigation Team had filed a charge sheet against nine accused, but one of them had died during the pendency of the case. The Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013 resulted in the deaths of over 60 people and displacement of thousands.
