Madagascar: opposition rally denied

A group of 11 presidential candidates in Madagascar were denied permission to hold a pre-campaign launch rally at the Palais des Sports in the capital, Antananarivo. The applicants had attempted to seize the High Constitutional Court over President Rajoelina's bid for another term, but their request was rejected. The candidates expressed disappointment and vowed to take their message to the public square. The decisions of the High Constitutional Court and the president's resignation were deemed constitutional. The army has been placed on orange alert, and tensions are rising ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
