Egypt: woman killed at Cairo University by rejected colleague

A woman was shot and killed by a Rejected Colleague at Cairo University in Egypt. The suspect later killed himself with the same weapon. The victim, identified as Nourhane, had allegedly refused a marriage proposal from her colleague, Ahmed, who had been harassing her. The suspect had a history of violence towards the victim, including setting fire to her car and threatening her. Femicides have been highly publicized in Egypt, with 301 women or young girls killed in 2022. Egypt has a patriarchal legal system and is associated with conservatism and rigorist Islam.
