Family looking for lost earring instead finds Viking-era burial treasures

A family in Norway, while searching for a lost gold earring in their garden, discovered Viking-era artifacts dating back more than 1,000 years. They used a metal detector and found a bowl-shaped buckle and another item that appear to be part of a Viking-era burial. The artifacts are believed to be from a woman's burial in the 9th century and are the first Viking-era discovery in Jomfruland, an island off Norway's south coast. Experts praised the family for their discovery and for immediately contacting authorities. This comes shortly after a man made a significant gold find using a metal detector in Norway.
