Rwanda: an AI platform for small holder farmers

Theofrida Muginga, a student from the University of Rwanda, is developing a Swahili chatbot called 'Mkulima GPT' to assist smallholder farmers in Rwanda. The chatbot, powered by AI and IoT, aims to detect crop diseases and provide culturally-sensitive agricultural advice. 'Mkulima GPT' is focused on local languages and plans to expand its services to more African languages. It has already established an online presence through a dedicated website and a WhatsApp phone number for farmers to ask questions. The project is currently in testing and plans to launch in December with input from agriculture and AI experts.
