Solomons Prime Minister tells US not to lecture Pacific leaders

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare criticized the United States for Lecturing Pacific Leaders instead of showing them respect. Sogavare declined to attend a US-Pacific islands summit aimed at countering China's influence in the region. He stated that he returned to the Solomon Islands to address domestic issues and accused the US of lecturing Pacific leaders during the summit. The Biden administration called on Congress to approve an additional $200 million in assistance to Pacific island nations at the summit. The US has been increasing its financial and economic assistance to Pacific countries to counter Chinese influence.
