Morocco and a trio of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have been chosen to host the Upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Morocco last hosted the tournament in 1988 but was stripped of the hosting rights in 2015 due to the Ebola virus. Algeria's last-minute withdrawal from the 2027 race opened up the opportunity for Morocco. CAF president Patrice Motsepe praised Morocco and revealed that the main reason for the competing countries' withdrawal was to support Morocco's bid for the 2030 World Cup. The tournament will mark a return to East Africa for the first time since 1976.
