Taiwanese businessman jailed over ‘Go Hong Kong!’ protest slogan

Taiwanese businessman Lee Meng-chu, who disappeared in Shenzhen in August 2019 during the Hong Kong protests, has revealed that he was initially detained for carrying a card with the slogan "Go Hong Kong!" and taking photos of armed police nearby. He was accused of being a Taiwan independence activist trying to foment a "color revolution" in Hong Kong. Lee was released last year after serving a jail term for "espionage" but was held under restrictions before being allowed to leave for Japan. He recently returned to Taiwan and now understands why Hong Kong residents protested against the erosion of their freedoms in 2019.
