Report: The world’s most critical climate target is still within reach

The International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is still possible if countries rapidly scale up renewables in the next decade. Solar power installations and electric vehicle sales are on track to help Reach the target, but overall progress towards net-zero emissions by 2050 is insufficient. The IEA stated that countries need to triple renewable power capacity, double energy efficiency improvements, and cut 75 percent of methane emissions from fossil fuels by 2030. Global clean energy investments will also need to rise significantly. The IEA called for an end to new oil and gas projects and coal-fired power plants.
