California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have required a human safety operator in self-driving trucks operating on public roads. Advocates argued that the bill would protect road users and truck drivers' job security, while opponents claimed it would hinder technological advancement and supply chain innovation. Newsom stated that existing laws provided sufficient regulatory framework and expressed trust in the DMV's ability to ensure public safety.
