Mozambique-U.S. seek to deepen defence, security ties

Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi met with the U.S. Secretary of Defence to discuss their bilateral defence relationship and Security cooperation. The conflict between authorities and radicalized fighters in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province has been ongoing since 2017. The U.S. expressed a commitment to work with Mozambique to eliminate the causes of conflict and expand security in the region. Both countries have suffered from terrorism and are grateful for each other's partnership in countering extremist groups. They also discussed domain awareness and strengthening maritime security. President Nyusi thanked the U.S. for their support in various areas such as the economy, health, and security.
