Former Central African president François Bozizé has been sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor for "conspiracy" and "rebellion" by the Ministry of Justice. Bozizé, who seized power in 2003 before being overthrown by rebels 10 years later, was sentenced in absentia along with two of his sons and 20 other co-accused, including prominent rebel leaders. The judgment also convicted them of "undermining the internal security of the State" and "murder." Bozizé, now a refugee in Chad, is the coordinator of the rebel coalition, Coalition of Patriots for Change, which is waging a guerrilla war in the north of the country.
